Maya Hawke has claimed that certain movies only get made if its cast reaches a certain “amount of collective followers” on Instagram. On a recent episode of podcast Happy Sad Confused, Hawke spoke about how certain films get the greenlight from producers, based on her conversations with “smart directors”.“I don’t care about Instagram.
Instagram sucks. Right, well just so you know, if you have over this many followers you can get the movie funded,” Hawke said on the podcast. “It’s a really confusing line to walk.”Hawke, who is the daughter of actors Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, added that she has floated the idea of “deleting my Instagram” with some directors, with one of them telling her: “Just so you know, when I’m casting a movie with some producers, they hand me a sheet with the amount of collective followers I have to get from the cast.”“So if you delete your Instagram and I lose those followers, understand these are the kinds of people I need to cast around you.” Watch the podcast episode below (skip to 29:28 for the quoted segment).Last December, Hawke wrapped filming for the final season of Stranger Things, which will be out sometime this year.Aside from film and TV, Hawke has also been busy as a musician, having released her third album ‘Chaos Angel’ last May, with a companion EP ‘Clipped Wings’ issued a few months later.Hawke is set to tour across the US, UK and Europe from March onwards.
