Maura knows it was a gamble but it was, in her mind, one worth taking. ‘RTÉ were great,’ she says. ‘I was very lucky that they agreed because I was worried they might say no.
But they said they didn’t want to lose me and that we could work something out.’Primarily it was the little man in her life who prompted Maura’s decision.
She never thought about kicking back when her husband, former TD John Deasy, was living the hectic life of a politician. But now their son Cal is six, something shifted for Maura.‘I always think something happens for a reason and in this last year when Cal went to school something clicked with me,’ she explains.‘I have been going, going, going for my whole career and I didn’t mind that.
