There has been some suggestion that Matty Peet's lack of professional career as a rugby league career may count against him as he prepares to lead Wigan into a new era, but the new Warriors head coach insists it actually makes him better prepared to take on the job of a lifetime in 2022.
Peet has taken an unconventional route to the top of the game. He has had two spells at Wigan, working his way through the coaching ranks either side of a temporary code switch to Sale Sharks.
But prior to that, his playing career only took him as far as the reserve squad at Leigh Centurions before he decided to call it a day in his early-20s in favour of heading to University.
