Marty Whelan hits out at RTE for its forced retirement policy

Tonight we should have been listening to Marty Whelan’s dulcet tones for the annual Eurovision Song Contest. However the show has been cancelled for the first time in its history because of the global health crisis and we are heartbroken.

This should have been Marty’s 22nd year commentating, and the beloved presenter has  opened up about what he thinks of RTÉ’s forced retirement policy and has addressed his own looming retirement next year.

The legendary presenter reveals he has no intention of throwing in the towel yet. He told the Irish Daily Mirror: ‘My attitude is you do what you do for as long as you can and then good luck and goodnight and thanks very much.’ ‘Ah, I’ll never stop.
