Martin Charles Scorsese Italian (born November 17, 1942) is an American filmmaker and actor, whose career spans more than 50 years. Part of the New Hollywood wave of filmmaking, he is widely regarded as one of the most significant and influential filmmakers in cinematic history. Scorsese's body of work explores such themes as Italian-American identity, Catholic concepts of guilt and redemption? faith, machismo, modern crime, and gang conflict. Many of his films are also known for their depiction of violence and liberal use of profanity. In 1990, he founded The Film Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to film preservation, and in 2007 he founded the World Cinema Foundation. He is a recipient of the AFI Life Achievement Award for his contributions to the cinema, and has won an Academy Award, a Palme d'Or, Cannes Film Festival Best Director Award, Silver Lion, Grammy Award, Emmys, Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and Directors Guild of America Awards.

Martin Scorsese’s Axed ‘Flower Moon’ Script Was Over 200 Pages Long and ‘Was Going to Take Four-and-a-Half Hours Just to Read’

Zack Sharf Digital News Director The version of “Killers of the Flower Moon” that is opening in theaters this weekend is far different from the “Killers of the Flower Moon” that director Martin Scorsese first attempted to bring to the big screen.

Originally, Scorsese and co-writer Eric Roth planned to more faithfully adapt David Grann’s 2017 book of the same name and wrote a script from the perspective of the FBI agents who investigated a string of murders among the Osage Nation in the 1920s.

Scorsese recently told BFI’s Sight & Sound magazine that this first script “was going to take four-and-a-half hours just to read it.” “Our script was over two hundred pages,” he also confirmed to The New Yorker about the original “Flower Moon” screenplay. “One night we had a big reading: myself and Leo and Eric and my daughter, a number of people.

The first two hours, we were moving along. The second two hours, boy, is this getting a little long in the tooth, as they say.
