Martin Lewis is urging 880,000 pensioners not to miss a crucial deadline this week as it could cost them £599 in cost of living payments.
During the latest episode the The Martin Lewis Money Show Live the consumer champion gave a quick overview of Pension Credit including who should check if they are eligible and how much they could receive.
However, he also warned that new claims need to be made over the phone by Friday, December 8 or online by Sunday, December 10 in order to qualify for a backdated payment of £300 cost of living support.
Martin told viewers: “If you are of State Pension age and have a total [weekly] income of roughly under £220 as a single pensioner or £320 as a couple - both of pension age - then my advice is ‘don’t stall, just call’.” And for anyone unsure about making a claim, he advised: “If you’re not sure if you’re due Pension Credit, just call up and check your eligibility or go online.” He added: “If your income is less than £204 per week, that’s what you will get but in certain circumstances like people with disabilities and some other criteria, you can have higher income and still get it.”The founder of MoneySavingExpert.com also clarified what counts as income for a Pension Credit claim.
