Martin Lewis has issued a crucial piece of advice to Brits that could help them receive an extra £4,000 a year in support. The Money Saving Expert founder revealed on Good Morning Britain that nearly one million individuals over the age of 66 could be eligible for a cash boost by simply making one phone call.
Martin urged viewers to check their eligibility for Pension Credit, which he described as "chronically under-claimed". Pension Credit is a benefit available to those who have reached the state pension age of 66 and it can top up your weekly income to £218.15 a week if you are single, or to £332.95 if you're part of a couple.
The financial guru highlighted that even a minimal entitlement to the benefit of just £1 could unlock access to a whole range of additional financial support. This includes help with dental and optician fees, as well as eligibility for Winter Fuel Payments, which can be as much as £300.
Previously, all Brits over the state pension age would receive the £300 support. However, due to recent changes introduced by the Labour Government, only those claiming certain means-tested benefits - including Pension Credit - now receive it, reports the Mirror.
