Martin Lewis has issued a warning to holidaymakers heading abroad with their phones this summer. The money expert has urged people not to get caught out by roaming charges, especially as each company from Three and EE to Vodafone and O2 all have a different definition of '24 hours'.
It could massively change the amount you end up paying while abroad, reports YorkshireLive. Some Brits have been stung with charges for an entire day's data for just six minutes of use thanks to difficult to understand data roaming charge rules, Martin revealed.
Speaking on the latest episode of The Martin Lewis Podcast for the BBC, he explained the confusion on when you will be charged for data roaming when you're abroad, and when the timer starts and ends. For Vodafone, the correct answer is 11.59pm on the day of first use in the capital of the country you are in. For EE it is until 11.59pm on the day of first use, UK time. "So the correct answer is, there is no definition, they are free to set it as they like.
