Kemp, 59, has spoken up about how her children feared her and Martin getting divorced, but they never “considered it".The star spoke about how she met Martin as well as their relationship as they grew.
Martin and Shirlie both spoke up about how they have managed to maintain their relationship for 35 years. Explaining what Shirlie means to him, he said that she has always been his “best friend.” Shirlie added that both her children were worried about the two of them divorcing based on their friends’ parents’ relationships. “Shirlie is the funniest person I know,” Martin said. “She's fun, she's grounded and she's my best friend.”Shirlie then added to the Daily Mail: “We both had parents who were together their whole lives.“I remember our kids being worried when they saw parents of their friends divorcing, but we've never considered it.” When asked about how her husband was a heart-throb, she said that it had “always been that way.” Shirlie recalled when she first introduced him to her mum, who branded him “the most handsome man” she had ever met.
Shirlie also explained that she was worried he would be a typical pop star, but soon discovered he was kind. She said: “It's always been like that. “I remember my mum meeting him for the first time. “She said, 'Oh, Shirl, he's the most handsome man I've ever seen.
He's like Elvis.’” The star added: “He looked so much like a pop star that I thought he would be like a pop star, and I didn't want that. “Then I discovered he was the kindest man I'd ever met.”Shirlie was once worried that Martin wouldn’t pull through after he suffered two brain tumours in the 90s.
