Mark Charnock has played the role of Marlon Dingle in Emmerdale since 1996 and in recent weeks his storyline has played out over a devastating stroke attack .
The actor, 53, has also had a few brief appearances on Coronation Street and EastEnders playing minor roles but Emmerdale is where he flourished.
The Bolton-born star has even picked up gongs for his portrayal of Marlon Dingle including Best Male Dramatic Performance at the British Soap Awards in 2004.
Over the years he has appeared in several Emmerdale spin off shows including Dingles Down Under and Paddy and Marlon's Big Night In.
