Mariah Carey (born March 27, 1969 or 1970) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and record producer. Referred to as the "Songbird Supreme" by Guinness World Records, she is noted for her five-octave vocal range, melismatic singing style, and signature use of the whistle register.
She rose to fame in 1990 after signing to Columbia Records and releasing her eponymous debut album, which topped the U.S. Billboard 200 for eleven consecutive weeks. Soon after, Carey became the only artist ever to have their first five singles reach number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, from "Vision of Love" to "Emotions".

Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” Carey said in a statement to The Post.“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” she continued. “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”Carey did not reveal any other details about her mom and her sister’s passing.The “Fantasy” singer was estranged from her sister and her mother for many years before their deaths.
She wrote in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, that her relationship with her mother “has caused me so much pain and confusion.”Additionally, she wrote that when the book was published, she found it “emotionally and physically safer for me not to have any contact” with Alison or her brother Morgan.Carey went on to allege her sister abused her as a child.
