Mariah Carey (born March 27, 1969 or 1970) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and record producer. Referred to as the "Songbird Supreme" by Guinness World Records, she is noted for her five-octave vocal range, melismatic singing style, and signature use of the whistle register.
She rose to fame in 1990 after signing to Columbia Records and releasing her eponymous debut album, which topped the U.S. Billboard 200 for eleven consecutive weeks. Soon after, Carey became the only artist ever to have their first five singles reach number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, from "Vision of Love" to "Emotions".

Believe it or not, the 55-year-old chanteuse has only received five awards at the ceremony over the years. During a recent interview, she opened up about the relatively minimal recognition that she’s received considering her lengthy and historic career.
She also said that her “best album” was overlooked. Keep reading to find out more… While on the Las Culturistas podcast, Mariah was told that she didn’t “have enough” wins at the ceremony. “They scaaaaammed me,” she agreed, via EW, adding, “They toy with me.” Mariah also referred to her 1997 album Butterfly as being “probably [her] best album.” She noted that it got “zero accolades.” At the Grammys that year, her singles “Honey” and “Butterfly” were both nominated but did not win.
What Grammys has she won? Mariah won her first two Grammys at the 1991 ceremony, where she was named Best New Artist and was awarded Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female for “Vision of Love.” Her next and final wins came in 2006 for her album The Emancipation of Mimi (Best Contemporary R&B Album) and her song “We Belong Together” (Best R&B Song and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance).
