Manchester United are still waiting for the green light when it comes to investment from Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The 71-year-old INEOS founder, who was born in the Manchester area and grew up supporting the Premier League giants, is expected to complete his minority takeover imminently.

Ratcliffe went head-to-head in the bidding along with Sheikh Jassim but the Qatari banker subsequently withdrew his interest.

Ratcliffe, who at first set his sights on purchasing a majority share, will become a 25 per cent stakeholder when the deal is eventually rubber-stamped.
