Tyrell Malacia could miss the entirety of the season for Manchester United with a knee problem as manager Erik ten Hag raised possible issues with the club's medical staff.
Malacia reported for pre-season training in July with a knee problem that required an operation and he was scheduled to return in January but suffered a setback that required a second round of surgery.
Fellow left-back Luke Shaw is due to be sidelined until May and Ten Hag exercised the break clause in Sergio Reguilon's season-long loan on January 2 as he had been "assured" Shaw and Malacia would be fit in the new year.
Shaw returned for United in their FA Cup fourth round win at Newport County on January 28 but he came off injured at half-time in the 2-1 win away to Aston Villa on February 11 before hobbling off a week later in the first half of the victory at Luton.
