While Portugal players were preparing to fly to Ljubljana for their friendly with Slovenia on Monday, Bruno Fernandes was strolling around Alderley Edge with his wife, Ana.
Fernandes was one of eight Portugal players granted permission to skip the 2-0 defeat on Tuesday night. He played and scored in the 5-2 victory over Sweden in Guimaraes last week.
The 29-year-old has already played 45 games this season for club and country. Manchester United will hope to play a dozen more matches this term with the FA Cup final, then there is the European Championship and a potential seven-match run to the final in Berlin.
So Fernandes could clock in 64 games this season, six down from the 70 he played in last season. In more than four years at United, he has not suffered a single injury.
