Bruno Fernandes put the visitors ahead after some good work from Alejandro Garnacho to tee up the United captain. Diogo Dalot was sent off for a second yellow card just after the hour mark and Arsenal took full advantage to draw level minutes later through Gabriel Magalhaes.
Arsenal were awarded a very soft penalty with 20 minutes to go but Altay Bayindir produced a good save to deny Martin Odegaard.
Extra time was required but neither side managed to find a winner in the additional 30 minutes as the game ended 1-1 and penalties were required.
