Manchester United have been handed an apparent boost in the race to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria. That is according to a report by the Liverpool Echo who report that Liverpool have no plans to sign the Switzerland international, despite reports overseas linking him with a move to Anfield.
The Monchengladbach star is out-of-contract at the Bundesliga club at the end of the season and he is understood to be keen to leave the club and explore a different avenue elsewhere.
United are understood to have monitored the defensive-midfielder, but, as reported by the Manchester Evening News earlier this month, the club is not expected to add him to Ralf Rangnick's squad this month, despite their desire to add a new midfielder to their ranks.
However, a summer free transfer to United cannot be ruled out with Zakaria's contract expiring in the summer. The 25-year-old is now into his fifth season at Monchengladbach and has gone from strength-to-strength, cementing himself as one of the best defensive-minded midfielders around.
