Manchester United's hopes of signing Cody Gakpo have been handed a boost after PSV failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Erik ten Hag has signed Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez this summer, but the Manchester Evening News understands the Dutchman is keen on strengthening his attacking options before the transfer window shuts.
United are expected to make another bid for Ajax winger Antony, 22, while Gakpo, 23, remains on the club's shortlist. Antony is naturally a right-winger and Gakpo plays on the left-wing, but it's thought the PSV man has the quality to play down the middle. Gakpo, who stands at 6ft 1ins, contributed 21 goals and 15 assists at PSV last season. Gakpo recently admitted he would be more likely to leave PSV if they failed to make it into the Champions League: "We must first focus on and try to make it to the Champions League.
