Ferguson retirement derailed Powell's United career Former Manchester United midfielder Nick Powell has claimed Sir Alex Ferguson’s 2013 retirement left him in a difficult position at the club.
Powell says he felt like an outcast under Louis van Gaal, having spent the 2013-14 on loan with Wigan Athletic. “I’m not saying Van Gaal was the main reason, but my time in the 14/15 season, I just didn’t want to be at Carrington,” Powell explains.
Powell claims he lacked motivation following Ferguson’s retirement and the Scot was a huge factor in deciding to sign for the club in the first place.
