Former Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong has been left surprised by Manchester United's lack of a Plan B following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but has backed Mauricio Pochettino should he get the job.
Solskjaer was relieved of his duties on Sunday after an abysmal run of form left the club 12 points off Premier League leaders Chelsea and in seventh place heading into the festive period.
Michael Carrick was named caretaker manager ahead of the appointment of an interim manager to get the club through the rest of the season.
Recent reports suggest United had moved on from Solskjaer following the 5-0 defeat to Liverpool last month but waited to sack him.
