United have lost ten games already this season and are 14th in the Premier League, only seven points above the relegation zone, ahead of a daunting trip to Liverpool on Sunday.
Amorim's side travel to Arsenal in the FA Cup third round next week and United's domestic campaign could effectively be over before the end of January unless they are dragged into a relegation battle for the first time in 51 years.
Club sources have said United have no budget to strengthen their squad in the New Year and they are dependent on selling players to finance any incomings.
