A man who endured 65 hours trapped under three concrete slabs with mere centimetres to breathe has recounted how this harrowing experience marked the beginning of years of trauma.

Stuart Diver, a 27 year old ski instructor at the time, found himself in the midst of a devastating landslide that destroyed his home, Bimbadeen Lodge in New South Wales, Australia, and claimed 18 lives.

On the night of July 30, 1997, 4,000 tonnes of mud crashed into their home at 11.35pm, after Carinya Lodge, a two-storey building, was also swept up in the landslide and collided with the three-storey, concrete-constructed Bimbadeen Lodge, entombing Stuart and his wife Sally.

Despite his desperate attempts to prevent it, Sally tragically lost her life during the disaster. Over the ensuing 65 hours, Stuart battled against the crushing weight of the debris, freezing temperatures, and mental anguish in a fight for survival.
