A Welsh scaffolder has been left with deep regrets after a dental operation in Turkey turned into "the worst mistake" of his life.
Matthew Bowen, hailing from Rhondda Cynon Taf, shelled out around £14,000 on surgery, travel and digs —only to end up potentially needing another pricey op after the work knocked his confidence. The 35 year old lad from Abercynon opened up to WalesOnline about his dental drama that started when he was just 19, after getting roughed up in Tesco and ended up with a broken jaw. "All my teeth started crumbling after that," shared the gutted scaffolder, who had put in graft seven days a week, 12-hour shifts for two years to fund his dream grin.
He couldn’t get his desired crowns on the NHS, and going private in the UK would've set him back a whopping £27,000. Mr. Bowen, swayed by a mate’s advice, jetted off to Marmaris’ Aras Selcuk Advanced Dentistry clinic, coughing up £7,800 for the procedure.
Despite issues, Dr. Selcuk stands by his work, claiming: "This is the only patient with problems so far. Everyone is happy, only this guy is not." Mr Bowen embarked on a dental journey to Marmaris in 2022 to discuss his surgery and then dedicated months to saving for the procedure, which he underwent in January 2023.The extensive work involved the removal of 18 teeth and the insertion of 12 metal implants into his jawbone, reports Wales Online.
