A man who launched a stabbing attack on random women while on his bike because he had been slighted by a female earlier that day was handed a prison sentence of 12 years on March 31.

A total of six women were attacked by Dermon McIlveen, 40, in October 2020 in what Judge Patrick Kinney QC described as a "violent rampage".

McIlveen, from Belfast, appeared at Belfast Crown Court via a videolink, where it was revealed that he was arrested after family members who saw a police appeal regarding the attacks contacted them.

Belfast Live reports that McIlveen admitted to a total of seven offences which were committed on October 12, 2020. The charges include wounding, attempted wounding and possession of a knife with intent to commit wounding.
