Manchester United have responded to an English MP amid concerns around fan behaviour after more arrests were made due to "tragedy chanting" during their game with Liverpool.

A thrilling FA Cup tie at Old Trafford was partially overshadowed when chants referencing the 1989 Hillsborough Disaster were heard coming from a small minority of home fans.

Two United fans were arrested as a result after new Premier League measures were introduced in June to crack down on tragedy-related chanting within matches. And United have now released their latest statement on the matter after a letter from Labour MP for Liverpool West Ian Byrne.

Mr Byrne shared a statement from the club on social media which reads: "Thank you for your letter to Manchester United and, on behalf of the club, let me reiterate our strong condemnation of the unacceptable chants that were heard from some fans against Liverpool."Ahead of the game and afterwards, we have made our feelings clear by reiterating the comments made by both managers in a joint statement last season, as well as providing our unequivocal support for the statements by The Football Association and Greater Manchester Police condemning this behaviour."We are also working closely with Greater Manchester Police to identify those responsible and will back up any criminal action with strong club sanctions as we seek to eradicate this issue from our game.
