Man suffers serious facial injuries after assault in Piccadilly Gardens which left tram stop covered in blood

A man has suffered serious facial injuries after two people were attacked near a Metrolink tram stop in Piccadilly Gardens last night.

Police were deployed to the area in Manchester city centre on Saturday evening (19 March) shortly before 6.30pm to reports of an a serious assault.

Two men are understood to have been injured - one seriously - during a disturbance, GMP said. A man in his 30s was subsequently taken to hospital with serious facial injuries. Services were not allowing passengers on or off in the area. A cordon remained in place around the platform for a number of hours.
