Coronation Street. The namesake of the legendary character from the ITV soap, who is played by actor William Roache, says he was often teased at school, with kids asking him "How’s Deidre?".
He has even wished the Corrie character would "die in a convoluted murder plot" after being ridiculed his whole life. In a first person piece for Metro.co.uk’s Hello, My Name Is… series, he says he blames his Welsh dad and Japanese mum for having no "cultural awareness" over the name Ken Barlow, who has been in the soap since 1960.
He said: "My dad did feel bad about his mistake. I remember him once giving a death stare to a passport official who jovially asked whether he had named me after the Coronation Street character.
