Man jailed after driving car at victims on same road one year apart

A motorist who twice used a car to attack men in a West Lothian town in assaults carried out a year apart was jailed for six years and nine months.The victims of Aaron Boles were both thrown into the air after he drove a vehicle at them in life-threatening attacks.Boles (25) carried out the second assault in Blackburn after he was freed on bail following the first attack.A judge told him at the High Court in Edinburgh: “In both cases you drove at and struck your victims with a car, causing them to be thrown into the air.”Lord Scott said: “Both suffered injury, pain and trauma.

Both continue to suffer from the effects of your actions.”During one of the car attacks carried out by Boles he appeared to be under the influence of highly addictive crack cocaine.The judge told him that being under the influence of drugs offered no excuse nor mitigation for his serious offending.Lord Scott said only a custodial sentence was appropriate in Boles’ case, given the gravity of the offending.The judge said: “This is necessary to punish you and to deter you and others from behaving in this way, and in particular to protect the public from you.”Lord Scott told him he would have faced a nine year prison term for the crimes but that would be reduced following his earlier guilty pleas.He ordered that Boles should be kept under supervision for a further period of three years and three months and warned that if he breached licence conditions during that time he could be returned to jail.The judge said he was aware of childhood difficulties faced by Boles, including bullying because of a medical condition.Lord Scott said he had also shown insight into the role of drugs, and previously alcohol, in his offending but there had been a “marked
