An XL bully lover has fired a warning to other owners after getting a nasty shock over his pet. Nicholas Doherty is advising anyone who has one of the dogs to check their pet insurance policies.
He was trying to make a claim for his XL Bully-Dogue de Bordeaux cross, Pharaoh, which is insured with Asda. The 41-year-old took out the policy last September. He registered it as a 'large cross-breed', making it clear to the company the three-year-old dog was part XL Bully.
After XL Bully restrictions came into force in England in December, he contacted the insurer.Nicholas, of Southport, Merseyside, asked if Pharaoh's insurance policy was still valid.
It is a legal requirement for XL Bully owners to have public liability insurance for their dogs. The Liverpool Echo reports, Nicholas said: "We thought we were doing everything right as responsible dog owners." An Asda representative told him they would contact the underwriters and get back to him.
