A man is understood to have been electrocuted on a railway line after he ran away from police who tried to arrest him, the M.E.N.

can reveal. The man, aged in his 20s, remained in a 'serious but stable condition' in hospital today, police said. Witnesses at the scene claimed he climbed a bridge off limits to the public at Farnworth railway station in Bolton last night - Wednesday.

The Manchester Evening News understands he came into contact with electric cables or wiring before subsequently falling onto the tracks.

Specialist paramedics and firefighters were called to the railway station on Bridge Street in Farnworth at around 7.30pm. The man, who hasn't been named, was then taken to hospital for urgent treatment.
