Police were called to the northbound carriageway of the motorway near Lesmahagow at around 1.40pm this afternoon. Officers moved to close the road at junctions 12 to 10, which remained shut off to drivers for a number of hours.
Cops said that a man involved in the crash died as a result of their injuries, while another was raced to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) in a critical condition.
One other driver was also taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. In a statement, Police Scotland said: “We were called to the scene at around 1.40pm on Saturday, July 24 after reports of an RTC involving motorbikes and a car on the M74 northbound. “One male driver suffered fatal injuries and another was taken to the Queen Elizabeth.
