during Storm Arwen. The tragedy occurred on the Dublin Road in Antrim on Friday and police have closed the roads in both directions and set up diversions.
It comes as the Met Office issued a warning for strong winds, as high as 90mph. There are also predicted to be waves as high as 10 metres in northeastern coastlines.
Drivers were warned told “not to travel under any circumstances” in the areas affected by the red alert. The alert stretches along the east coast from Middlesbrough to beyond Aberdeen.
Yellow and amber warnings for wind have also been issued across much of the UK and a weather warning is in place for Northern Ireland throughout Friday and until 6pm on Saturday, with gusts of wind up to 60mph predicted.
