A man could only be recognised by his nose after being involved in a freak accident where a horse was launched onto his car.

Ian Tilston, 34, needed major brain surgery and can no longer see or walk following the crash on January 10 2022. He was driving from his home in Hawarden, North Wales to work in Nantwich on the M56 when his life changed forever.

As Ian exited at junction 10, a car in front hit a horse which had escaped from a nearby field. The horse then hit his car, crushing both the vehicle and himself.

Ian was rushed to Salford Royal Hospital where underwent life-saving brain surgery and multiple procedures to rebuild his face, reports the ECHO. READ MORE: The one-off DWP payments that will arrive in March Speaking more than a year on from the accident on January 10, 2022, Ian's brother, Adam, told the ECHO: "He was put in an induced coma for a few weeks and when he woke up they moved him to The Walton Centre.
