Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has revealed he was a Liverpool fan as a child, idolising former striker Michael Owen.

The City star has been in heated Premier League title races against the Reds for many seasons under Pep Guardiola. De Bruyne wrote his name in City folklore after playing an integral role in their treble-winning side.

The Belgian has won five Premier League titles, the Champions League, five League Cups and two FA Cups during his time in Manchester.

Despite going on to become an iconic player in Manchester, De Bruyne actually used to support former title rivals, Liverpool. “My favourite club is Liverpool and my favourite player is Michael Owen,” an 11-year-old De Bruyne admitted in old video footage whilst he was still at Genk. “And I would love to play there one day.” Want to join our MUFC Pro club for a totally ad-free version of the MEN’s Man United app packed with premium features?
