Man City sanctioned and fined by the Premier League... but not for what you might expect

Manchester City have 'entered into a sanction agreement' with the Premier League after admitting 22 breaches of the league's rulebook over the last two seasons, and have been fined £2.09m.The breaches relate to delayed kick-off and restart times, with delays between one minute and 2.45 minutes.

The longest delay came in the final day of the 2023/24 season against West Ham with City needing to win to secure the title ahead of Arsenal.Of the 22 incidents, eight came in the 2022/23 season and 14 in the 2023/24 season.

The fines for the breaches range from £10,000 to £200,000.In the Premier League's written reasons for the punishment, the league say City accepted delaying the restart of games 22 times 'without good reason'.City have accepted and apologised for the breaches.

The statement says City have reminded their players and management teams of their responsibilities in regards to restarting matches on time.City have declined to comment.The latest development is unrelated to both the clubs outstanding 115 charges for alleged breached of financial rules, and also the club's legal action against the Premier League regarding Associated Party Transaction rules..
