Manchester City are calculating whether they can summon enough funds in order to prise Lionel Messi away from Barcelona should the opportunity arise.
After surviving their recent brush with Financial Fair Play rules, City are wary of sailing close to the FFP wind so soon after the had UEFA's sanctions overturned by CAS.But even a remote chance to sign Messi is considered to be too good to not pursue by Etihad bigwigs.If the Barcelona star does become available, City intend to be prepared and are looking into the costs that would be involved if Barca agree to sell for a reasonable price.The La Liga outfit's official stance is that Messi is not for sale and any interested parties will be referred to his gigantic £670m release clause.
