Man City enjoy legal 'success' over Premier League as verdict explained

Manchester City appeared to land a major victory in their legal battle against the Premier League on Thursday. City are currently contesting their 115 charges with the league in court, but they have also been in battle over Associated Transaction Rules (APT).

The rules are designed to limit how much associated parties can pay clubs in sponsorship. A vote on potential rule amendments had been due to take place, involving all 20 clubs, at a meeting on Thursday.

It's understood that the vote was pulled from the schedule 'at the last minute'. The rules in question surround 'fair market value' assessments in relation to such transactions. City have fought the rules on the basis that they are anti-competitive and "'deliberately intended to stifle the commercial freedoms of particular clubs in particular circumstances and thus to restrict economic competition."
