Manchester City will take more care over Kevin De Bruyne's return after his injury issues with Pep Guardiola aiming to get his playmaker ready to play a string of 90-minute games at the business end of the season.

De Bruyne made his Premier League comeback in style at St James' Park, coming off the bench with 21 minutes to go and City behind at Newcastle, before scoring once and creating Oscar Bobb's injury-time winner.

The Belgian now has one goal and two assists in just over 40 minutes of Premier League action this season, but this was only his second appearance since suffering a major hamstring injury at Burnley on the opening weekend of the season.

De Bruyne made his return to action off the bench against Huddersfield last weekend but he was back amongst the substitutes on Tyneside before his decisive cameo late in the game.
