Man charged after 62-year-old stabbed multiple times in attack

A 21-year-old man is to appear in court in connection with a stabbing in Macclesfield. Thomas Coppock, of Crompton Road, Macclesfield, has been charged with section 18 wounding with intent and two counts of common assault.

It comes after a 62-year-old man was found on Crompton Road with numerous injuries to his body and neck at 11.45pm on Saturday.

He was taken to Royal Stoke Hospital in a serious condition. Read more:Woman arrested after following sat nav and getting stuck in Metrolink tunnel Mr Coppock has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Warrington magistrates' court on September 10.

Speaking on Sunday Det Sgt Kate Palin said: "A number of enquiries are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the stabbing that has occurred. “A scene is in place on Crompton Road and I am encouraging residents within the vicinity who may have CCTV or dash cam footage that shows the assault shortly before and after it occurred to contact us.
