The cash was found in a box on the back seat of the car, and the man, aged 34, remains in police custody for questioning. The stop was made as part of Operation Vulcan, a multi-agency initiative to tackle crime in the Cheetham Hill and Strangeways areas.

Police said the incident was 'another example of why relentless policing in the area is so important'.
