Man appears in court after dog 'stabbed to death' in Edinburgh

A man has appeared in court after a dog was allegedly stabbed to death in Edinburgh.Dean Mackay, 36, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

He was charged with two accounts of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, assault, vandalism and behaving in a threatening and abusive manner.

Mackay, of Edinburgh, made no plea or declaration. He was remanded in custody as the case was submitted for further examination.

He is due to reappear in court within the next eight days. It comes after Armed police and dog units were called to a disturbance at the Premier Supermarket at Calder Park at 4.30pm on Friday.
