A man has tragically died after being struck by a car in north Manchester - with a woman arrested on the scene. The 45-year-old was hit by the car on Rochdale Road in the Collyhurst area, near the junctions with Queens Road and Paget Street, at around 9.50pm last night (Sunday, September 30).
Police said he was 'laid in the road' when the vehicle struck him. Sadly, he suffered fatal injuries and died. The driver of the car - a 46-year-old woman - failed a roadside drug test on the scene. She has been taken into custody to be questioned by detectives, with an investigation now underway. A huge emergency services response, including police and paramedics, was spotted on Rochdale Road late last night.
A stretch of the road was cordoned off as investigations were carried out. Rochdale Road was reopened again just after 6.30am this morning, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed.
