A man has been charged by police investigating a 'spike' in thefts from vehicles across the Manchester city centre area, GMP said today.

Edward Skinner, 36, of Lamb Close, Longsight, Manchester, has been charged with five counts of theft from a motor vehicle. Greater Manchester Police confirmed in a statement he was remanded in custody and was due to appear before magistrates today - Tuesday. In a statement, GMP said: "On Monday 10 July 2023, officers arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle following several offences being committed across the city of Manchester central district. "He was taken into custody and later that day was charged.

Edward Skinner, 36, of Lamb Close, Longsight, was charged with five counts of theft from a motor vehicle and remanded in custody. "He will appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on Tuesday 11 July 2023." Sergeant Alex Vernon, of GMP's City of Manchester Neighbourhood Crime Team, said: "Having your car broken into and losing your things to thieves can be very distressing and GMP will be relentless in our pursuit of tackling crime in our communities. "Our officers recently received several reports regarding vehicle crimes in the area including theft from motor vehicles across the City of Manchester and this charge is a direct action in response to these incidents. "I would continue to urge the public to be mindful when leaving valuables in your car or parking it in a public place.
