Joe Otterson TV Reporter The “Malcolm in the Middle” revival at Disney+ is building out its cast. Variety has learned exclusively that Kiana Madeira is set to star in the series alongside previously announced returning cast members Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek.
The Disney Branded Television show was picked up for four episodes back in December. Per the official logline, “Malcolm (Muniz) and his daughter are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.” Madeira will play Tristan, described as “Malcolm’s charming and opinionated girlfriend who – by any rational standard – is way out of his league.” Madeira is perhaps best known for her starring role in the “Fear Street” film trilogy at Netflix.
Her other film credits include the “After” film franchise at Netflix — “After We Fell,” “After Ever Happy,” and “After Everything” — as well as “Brother” and “Perfect Addiction.” In television, she has previously starred in shows like “Trinkets” and appeared in shows like”Sacred Lies” and “The Flash.” She also recently voiced Supergirl in the animated series “My Adventures with Superman.” Up next, she will star in the Lionsgate feature “Titan” and star in and executive produce the indie boxing film “Baby Love.” She is repped by Verve, Luber Roklin Entertainment, Ambition Talent, and Hansen Jacobson.
Linwod Boomer created the original series and returns as writer and executive producer on the revival. Cranston, Tracy Katsky of KatCo, Gail Berman and New Regency’s Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan and Natalie Lehmann are executive producers.
