Areas of Majorca have been placed under drought alert with the situation in some parts of the island only one level down from ‘emergency’.
The government of the Balearic Islands has warned that the situation requires “rigorous monitoring” and “responsible management of available resources”.
The latest data from the Ministry of sea and water cycle shows that water reserves across the Balearic Islands increased to 46 per cent during September, an increase of three per cent compared to August.
However, it is still six per cent below September 2023. Currently all of the Balearic Islands are under a state of ‘pre-alert’ for drought conditions.
