Major presenter retires from TV as he claims he 'doesn't need the money'

Chris Tarrant, the former host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, has announced his retirement.The TV veteran confirmed that he's no longer undecided about stepping away from the small screen, with the pandemic prompting him to reassess how he wants to spend his time. "I've stopped," he declared, putting an end to his 50-year broadcasting career and confirming a firm "yes" to retirement. "Lockdown started to get everything in perspective and I thought, I've done this thing for 50 years.

I don't need the money... why am I still doing this?" he said at the TRIC Awards Christmas lunch at the Londoner hotel. Instead of working, Chris has been enjoying activities he'd previously put off, such as going on safari with his grandkids and photographing bears in Alaska.

Despite hosting an Extreme Railways series, he doesn't see himself returning to work in travel. "It's nicer when you're not being told where to go, what to do," he said.

Reality TV is off the table too, despite offers to appear on The Masked Singer. "I actually don't miss it," he admits, reports the Mirror. "I had a great time.
