Madonna protégé and Levi’s model Nick Kamen passes away at 59

evoke.ieEssex born model, Nick Kamen has passed away at the age of 59. He was best known for his relationship with Madonna and his role in the 1985 Levi campaign.
He caught the world’s attention during the 1985 Levi’s 501 commercial, in which he famously stripped off in a launderette. The model, born Ivor Neville Kamen, made his appearance in Levi’s ad aged just 18 when he was first given the name ‘Nick’, which he later adopted permanently.
In the iconic advert, which was directed by Roger Lyons, he was seen stripping off and washing his clothes in front of a host of onlookers to the sound of Marvin Gaye’s 1968 hit Heard It Through The Grapevine.
