The collision happened on the westbound section of the motorway between junctions 26 and 27, near Renfrew, at around 12pm on Tuesday.
A tweet from Traffic Scotland said that the road had been closed and that emergency services were on their way.A later Traffic Scotland update with incident details said: "Road closed to all traffic due to a road traffic incident.
Road users are advised to leave the M8 at Jct 26 (W) and use an alternative route."A further message at 12.23pm said lane three has been reopened with the other two lanes
