A man aged in his 20s has tragically died in a crash on the M61 motorway. The smash happened on the southbound side of the motorway near to Rivington Services at around 11.40pm last night (Tuesday, October 15).
Police said a Citreon C1 car hit a barrier, before then colliding with a Mercedes on the carriageway. The man - who was a passenger in the Citreon - was sadly pronounced dead on the scene.

A stretch of the motorway was fully closed off after the crash, with the southbound side closure now having been in place for more than 12 hours.
