Love Island's Ekin-Su and Davide split explained by relationship expert

Ekin-Su Culculoglu and Davide Sanclimenti are the latest couple to fall victim to the Love Island curse less than a year after leaving the villa.

Ekin, 28, and Davide, 27, emerged victorious in last year's series but announced they'd gone their separate ways just 11 months into their relationship.

Now relationship expert Annabelle Knight tells OK! that the once loved-up couple only got to know each other on a "surface level" in the villa, where they only had to "juggle that one ball". "When you get home, you’ve got all the boring mundane things you have to do as an adult, as well as work and managing the balance between family, friends and commitments," she said. "And what was really fun in the summer, can feel a bit heavy and you may realise it’s not for you anymore." She added: "A villa romance can be similar to a summer romance as it’s often you won’t want to take it any further than those few weeks of fun in the summer.” Davide officially announced his single status on Thursday, posting a statement to his Instagram.

He wrote:" I am grateful for the memories and opportunities we shared together and I wish her nothing but the best. I would like for everybody to respect this decision during this difficult time.
